SAT, PSAT, ACT, and LSAT Prep Tutoring for Saratoga, CA
If you’re looking for an SAT prep expert, then you've found him.
I have tutored hundreds of SAT and ACT prep students since 1997. In 2009, I took the new SAT I (overhauled in 2005) and got a score of 2390 out of 2400 (800 points per section, 3 sections: SAT Math, SAT Critical Reading, and SAT Writing, which includes multiple-coice questions and a scored essay).
The SAT, PSAT, and ACT are all very different tests, but the one thing they all have in common is that they cover a very limited range of topics. For example, there are many grammar rules which are NOT covered by the English/Writing sections of these tests. I got a perfect score on the SAT Writing section, but there are many grammar rules which I do not know or remember entirely. The SAT Math section tests concepts, not formulas. In other words, one need not know many math formulas in order to do well on the SAT Math. In fact, most of the formulas that are needed are given at the beginning of each math section.
On the other hand, the ACT Math section tests formulas, not concepts. So all one has to do in order to do well on the ACT Math section is to memorize the necessary formulas.
I have all of my SAT and PSAT prep students use The College Board's "The Official Guide to the SAT (2nd edition)." Also, any serious SAT student spends many hours poring over vocabulary lists and flashcards. There are a number of good vocabulary products available.
